Norman McLeod founded his Practice in Aberdeen as a Chartered Quantity Surveyor in 1954 in a rented room in Marischal Street, later the same year was joined by Sandy Aitken and McLeod & Aitken were born. The Practice grew with offices in Alford Place, then Huntly Street, and Queen's Gardens, Aberdeen.
Development of the Practice.
Mike Walton and Ian Thomson became Partners in 1984, the office moving to its present location in Queen's Gate in 1986, with the Practice becoming a limited company in 2000 and additional directors appointed in 2002 which now makes McLEOD+AITKEN LIMITED one of the largest quantity surveying firms north of the Scottish Central belt.
McLEOD+AITKEN LIMITED works nationally from bases in Aberdeen & Leeds carrying out projects from Shetland, through Scotland and Northern Ireland to the southern tip of England and Wales.
Services
Our traditional quantity surveying role, has for some years been complemented by project management, CDM Co-ordinator and other professional services.
The Practice has prospered by developing a sound client base and remains committed to furthering our knowledge over the full spectrum of our service in every aspect of modern/traditional construction techniques. We recognise the need to respond timeously and accurately to client requirements, particularly considering ever reducing construction periods and advance design methodology.
Technically
The firm has the latest computer systems, running planner/project management, computerised billing systems catering for SMM7 and CESMM3 bill preparations presentation, secure e-tendering facility for all projects, word processing, spreadsheet, database, digitisers, volumetrix 3-dimensional measuring systems and scanner hardware/software. These software packages are run on the latest networked hardware and linked to laser printers. All printing, photocopying and collation of contract documentation is done in-house. We have a multi-line DDI telephone system, stand alone and IT based fax capabilities, desk to desk E-mailing, Internet connections, video conference systems and digital copying facilities. These systems allow us to provide a rapid flexible response to suit individual client needs and these are kept up to date as we realise the need for quick and accurate responses.
New Offices
In 2001 McLEOD+AITKEN LIMITED opened new offices in Leeds run by our Leeds Director, Colin McFadden.

A modern open approach based very much on traditional QS functions with the firm belief that accurate cost detail, based on Bills of Quantities provides the best: - cost management, control, understanding, auditability and lowest overall final cost for our clients. This has been extended to differing forms of Contract: - Traditional, Design & Build, Partnering, Two Stage Tendering and Work Packages.
Using these core skills we have adopted a very flexible approach to the individual needs of our various clients, offering expertise in cost consultancy, project management, and a comprehensive range of specialist consulting services, with the understanding that every project is different and needs tailoring project to suit each of our clients' needs.
McLEOD+AITKEN LIMITED are very proactive in their approach taking the lead on all cost issues to meet the aspirations of our various clients backed up by robust cost reporting and management systems. This we achieve by a high level of input from our Directors and senior staff.
